Marin Murakoshi is a Japanese artist living and working in the U.S., now lives and works in Concord, MA. She grew up in one of the oldest small villages of Ishigaki island, Okinawa, Japan. Before moving to Boston in 2016, she lived in Osaka, New York, Los Angeles and Seattle. Over the years, she focused on direct-carving of wood and stone. She creates figurative and semi-abstract forms through carving and often lets the material take its own shape. In recent years, she has put effort into participating in the International Sculpture Symposium. In addition to sculpting using traditional techniques such as stone and wood carving, “Rubbish Revival” - using repurposed found materials for sculptures - is her most recent project since the pandemic. |
“Regardless of any techniques used for creating, I hope to create 3-dimensional objects that stimulate the viewer's imagination, inspiring them to recall stories or memories when they look at the work. While the modern world is overflowing with things designed to excite us emotionally, I want to create works that recall those moments when we felt warmth and kindness, childhood dreams and happy memories, or possess a calm & resilient energy that soothes the viewer's nerves. Life presents us with all sorts of challenges, from minor hurdles to major obstacles. I continue creating, aiming to offer a quiet encouragement to keep living.”
